Hello Bioinformatics lovers, It is a Memorial Day long weekend here in the US. I hope you had a great week and learned some new skills! Today, I will show you how to up-level your bioinformatics skills in 5 steps. In the end, you will see a real example step by step. Many of the bioinformatics tutorials show you how to process one sample. However, in real life, you always need to process multiple samples. How can you do it efficiently? Level 1: do it manually. Type out the commands one by one for each sample. Level 2: write a bash script to automate Level 3: Write Python or R code to automate and call the shell commands within R or Python. Level 4: run it in an HPC cluster Level 5: run it with a workflow language such as Snakemake or nextflow. Read this blog post where I use real examples to demonstrate level 1-5 Something I was very excited about: I was on Josh Starmer's podcast! If you do not know Josh, you should. I learned a lot from his youtube (statquest) videos about statistics and machine learning. I have watched this video on PCA 20 times! Happy Learning! Tommy Let's connect on twitter and Linkedin! |
