Tommy here. Many of you signed up for this newsletter to learn computational skills. If you ask me the secret of learning it,

It is consistent and persistent.

In other words, it is not EASY.

I want to normalize the feeling of frustration when one just started.

I want to say that it is not easy to learn this thing if you are from a different field.

Ten years after analyzing the first ChIP-seq dataset, I could finally confidently integrate any data types to generate beautiful figures and derive biological insights. The latter is harder 😄

However, it does not mean you can not make progress and do amazing things after 1-2 years.

Below is a conversation with a reader of my newsletter.

Like any life skill, it takes TIME to master it.

Putting in effort every day, you will see amazing transformation in a few years.

So, if you are struggling just know that it is normal.

You learn more through suffering.

You understand deeper through frustration.

Of course, reach out for help if you are stuck.

Go and find someone around who is doing bioinformatics.
